Who is the Green Amigo?

War on Waste – ABC TV
10/06/2017

Hi! If you’re reading this you could be my wonderful, supportive Husband, my Mum, (hi Mum!) maybe my sister/brother or a devoted friend of mine. Thank you! You could also be someone that wants to embark on a journey for a greener future. That’s exciting!

So who am I, and what are you doing here reading this? I’m a woman who lives in a leafy part of Brisbane in QLD Australia. I’m a wife to an incredible man, and a mummy to an amazing little boy. We are gradually changing our way of life to be greener.

The Green Amigo has come about because of my own “green guilt”. I found myself increasingly aware of how much waste my family discarded – and I couldn’t ignore it anymore… It made me feel, well, guilty, every time I threw something in the rubbish bin because I knew that it was going to landfill and I just felt that by making small changes we could make a difference for our household and our world. So it got me thinking more and more about helping other people make little changes too, so that those little changes could make a difference for their household and their world – also my world… so, you can see where this is going right?

EVERYONE can make a difference.

The name Green Amigo actually came to me in my sleep… The idea kept evolving and this is where it has landed. I am your Green friend – The Green Amigo!

I want to help people like me, that are just like you – on their journey to a greener way of living. I am learning too, and I’m not perfect, but that’s the whole point! We all learn by doing things differently. Maybe I’ll do something one way, and you can show me a different way to do it. Then there are two different ways of doing something, and one way might work better for some people than the other. Between us we can build a library of information, supportive feedback and discussion on how we can all makes changes for a better future for the Earth. Not all changes will suit all people, and that’s OK, this isn’t a one size fits all kind of journey – but we can all make some changes that do suit us, however small, and help our planet – this beautiful world that we live in.

You don’t have to be a non-dairy vegan (not that there is anything wrong with that!), or be about to join the sea shepherd (though you could!) to make a difference. You can make small changes, for example, making sure that your soft plastics like cling wrap and other soft packaging, get taken along with any shopping bags that need recycling, back to your supermarket and place them in the “redcycle” recycling container.

You can read more about Redcycle here: http://www.redcycle.net.au/

I hope you’ll join me on the journey and keep me posted on your progress, new ideas, old ideas, better ideas, great ideas! Please tell me what products you would love to see in store so I can keep it stocked with products that make a difference for you.

EVERYONE CAN make a difference.

Lots of love,

Green Amigo x

Great post Hun, encouraging message to make a difference. Yes I can put my hand up as guilty, not recycling 100% the correct way. Great information as some waste you just don’t know what’s recyclable so in the end it just goes in the general rubbish bin. I’ll start to make some changes in our household and let you know how I go.
